P-Platers

Under normal circumstances, red p-platers*, and for that matter, green p-platers* as well annoy the heck out of me. I don't think it's personal, it just annoys me how long they have to be on their 'p's' for, the roads seem to be infested with p-platers!!! In fact, there's so many of them, that someone reading this will almost certainly leave a negative comment on this blog!!!

But i am an experienced driver. I drive too fast and sometimes i can be wreckless but i am a good driver!

Sane and cautious p-platers are one thing, i respect them because they, with no good reason, respect me.

But it's the crazy, wheel screeching RED p-platers that get on my nerves the most! Tonight i encountered one of their kind.

I cautiously got into the left lane, because they were serving all over the right lane, and tried to overtake them. But once they saw i was getting faster than them, they revved their engine to overtake me, so i hit my brakes coz i couldn't be bothered being their 'competition'.

However, we both pulled up to a red light, neck and neck. I could HEAR them yelling abuse at me because they had their windows rolled down. So i calmly rolled down my window and again, calmly, said to them, 'You are a red p-plater. You need to focus on the road.' And with that, i rolled my window back up and looked straight ahead waiting for the lights to turn green.

It HAD to have hurt his ego, particularly having three other friends in his car, because his abuse, and language for that matter as did his voice pitch, got worse. I didn't dare turn to look at them, but as soon as the lights turned green, he was doing the exact opposite of what i had told him, screeching his tyres etc blah blah.

It felt good to tell him to be a better driver but i was glad to have gotten away from them, i'm not gonna lie, it was a pretty dumb thing of me to do, they could've had a baseball bat and because of that, i really scared the heck outta myself. But i was tired of p-platers walking all over me, thinking how good they are and it just felt good to get that off my chest.

So red and green p-platers, please understand why you have to wear those signs and focus on learning how to drive cautiously and courteously, otherwise you're gonne hurt someone or yourself.

*NB: P-Platers are the next level up from learner drivers. The order is L's (learners) Red P's (120 hours of driving and 12months) and then Green P's (2years).
